At TurtleType, we believe your keystrokes, typing practice, and speed metrics belong strictly to you. We engineered TurtleType as a client-first, distraction-free typing platform with a simple founding principle: what you type in your browser stays in your browser. We do not operate user tracking accounts, and we never transmit your typed words or training sessions to remote databases.

2. Data Stored Locally on Your Device

When you practice on TurtleType, the application runs entirely on client-side technology. To provide a seamless experience between visits, the following preferences and metrics are saved exclusively inside your browser’s local storage (localStorage):

  • Theme Preference: The active color palette selected in the theme palette.
  • Test Configuration: Your preferred typing modes (time, words, quote) and modifiers (punctuation, numbers).
  • Personal Progress: Your completed test count, average WPM, and personal best records.

Because this data never leaves your computer or phone, you maintain complete sovereignty over it. You can inspect, modify, or erase all saved records at any moment by clearing your browser’s cache and site data, or by clicking "Reset Local Data" within your browser developer tools.

3. Cookies & Advertising Partners (Google AdSense)

To support free, unrestricted access to TurtleType for typists worldwide, we partner with third-party advertising vendors, including Google LLC (Google AdSense), to display non-intrusive advertisements on our website.

• Third-Party Vendor Cookies: Google and certified third-party ad networks use cookies and web beacons to serve advertisements based on your prior visits to this website and other sites across the internet.

• Personalized vs. Contextual Ads: Depending on your geographic location and consent selections, ads may be personalized to your interests or served contextually based on page content.

When you access TurtleType, our hosting edge infrastructure (such as Cloudflare or Vercel Edge) may log standard, non-personally identifiable technical diagnostic data. This includes IP addresses, browser user-agents, referring URLs, and operating system metrics strictly for DDoS mitigation, infrastructure reliability, and cybersecurity defense. These logs are never correlated with your typing sessions.

5. Your Rights (GDPR, CCPA & Global Typists)

Whether you are protected by the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), or privacy regulations worldwide, our architecture inherently protects you:

  • Zero Sale of Data: We do not sell, monetize, broker, or trade your personal data with any third party.
  • Self-Service Erasure: Because all typing histories and preferences reside locally on your machine, you do not need to wait for human support to exercise your right to erasure—clearing your browser data erases your records instantly.
  • Transparency: You have the right to full disclosure on how data is handled, as outlined in this policy.

6. Children’s Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

TurtleType is an educational and motor-skill practice platform designed for general audiences of all ages, including classroom students. We do not require registration, do not collect personal names, email addresses, or phone numbers, and do not knowingly solicit any personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13 in compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
